Group 4 firefighters are wrapping up a busy 24-hour shift this morning after responding to 30 calls for service throughout the town.

Among those calls was an overnight structure fire at the CertainTeed shingle plant, where crews encountered a fire involving machinery inside the facility. Initially reported as a commercial fire alarm upon arrival a smoke condition was found inside the structure and a fire in one of the machines attached to the main plant building. Crews stretched hose lines to knock the fire down but due to the difficult access to the seat of the fire and the large volume of heat and heavy smoke in the commercial building a Working Fire was struck bringing Walpole and Westwood’s Engines to the scene

Firefighters worked for several hours to gain access, extinguish the fire, secure utilities, and check the building for any extension of the fire. Norwood Fire Investigators remained on scene to determine the cause of the fire

During this time a Dedham Engine Company as well as recalled off duty Norwood Firefighters covered the town and answered multiple medicals along with out of town ambulances. As always thank you to our mutual aid partners for their assistance
