We love seeing business owners and professionals sharing best practices and challenges with each other to grow and prosper. Thank you for asking us to lead the roundtable!

Some of the best marketing ideas come from talking with other business professionals facing the same challenges and opportunities.

On Thursday, October 8th, members of the South Belt-Ellington Chamber of Commerce met for Marketing Strategies Unplugged, an interactive discussion about building brand awareness and measuring marketing success. Attendees shared their wins, lessons learned, and the challenges they faced. They discussed posting on different social media platforms, tracking results, creating strong calls to action, engaging their audience, and measuring return on investment.

Amy Reid, Interim Director of the Small Business Development Center at San Jacinto College, led the session. The group had meaningful conversations and worked together to solve real problems. Everyone left with new ideas, strategies, and useful tips they can use in their own marketing.

💡 Small Business Tip: Listen to Lost Customers

When a customer walks away, their feedback can be especially valuable. Take time to understand why they left—whether it was price, service, communication, or something else. Their perspective may uncover issues your loyal customers haven’t mentioned.

👂 Sometimes the customers who leave can teach you the most about how to improve and grow.

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has issued an alert to help consumers steer clear of yet another deceptive and unethical company practice. There have been numerous complaints filed against Texas UCC Statement Services for sending out purposely misleading mailers in order to unnecessarily collect money from consumers.
We have also gotten reports from our own customers, who have received mail from the Texas UCC Statement Services, claiming that a fee (usually $90) is owed in relation to documentation on an existing loan. In an attempt to establish legitimacy and get you to send the money, they are misusing disclaimers to trick consumers into thinking it’s from an official government agency.
This mail IS NOT from an official government agency.
f you have received a form that looks like this, please report it. Staying up-to-date on the latest schemes and taking that extra step to report them helps keep families and businesses safe from falling victim to fraud.
How to report: Call the Texas Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division toll-free at 1-800-621-0508 or file a complaint online, link posted in comments below.
