SUPER HOT WEATHER THIS WEEKEND:

Here are a few things to take care of yourself and recognizing the symptoms of Heat Exhaustion

To quickly treat heat exhaustion, move to an air-conditioned room or deep shade and loosen or remove excess clothing. Elevate your legs, sip cool water or sports drinks, and apply cool, wet towels to your skin. Seek emergency medical care immediately if symptoms do not improve within one hour.The best approach focuses on three core steps:
Cool the Body:
If you can't get indoors, find the nearest shaded area. Lower your core temperature by taking a cool shower, applying ice packs wrapped in towels to your neck, armpits, and groin, or sitting in front of a fan while misting your skin with cool water.
Hydrate Strategically:
Slowly sip cool water or an electrolyte-rich sports drink. Sip fluids in small amounts over about an hour. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, as they can worsen dehydration.
Rest and Monitor:
Lie down and rest with your legs raised above the level of your heart to encourage blood flow to vital organs.
When to seek immediate emergency help (Call 911):
Heat exhaustion can rapidly progress to heat stroke, which is a life-threatening medical emergency. Call for medical attention right away if the person:Has a body temperature over 104° F (40° C)Experiences confusion, slurred speech, seizures, or loses consciousnessStops sweating, despite the heatVomits or is unable to keep fluids down

This is a photo from FB from one of our citizens letting everyone know. This is good, but take the extra step and call 911 FIRST. Give our responders the opportunity and time to get out and investigate or catch a fire before it grows. Stay diligent and as always thanks for looking out for us all.

On Thursday, July 9, 2026, at approximately 12:30 p.m., North Central Fire Protection District was dispatched to investigate a report of smoke in the area. During the investigation, crews located an active wildland fire approximately two miles north of the Chaparral community.

Brush 242 was the first unit to arrive on scene and reported a confirmed fire burning in a deep ravine with heavy grass, brush, and timber fuels.

With the assistance of Kiowa Fire Protection District, Agate Fire Protection District, Elbert Fire Protection District, Rattlesnake Fire Protection District, Elizabeth Fire Protection District, Douglas County Office of Emergency Management, Elbert County Road and Bridge, Elbert County Office of Emergency Management, and State Engine 2991 from Greeley, Colorado, the fire was quickly contained, preventing any significant spread.

The Douglas County OEM Helibase helicopter played a critical role by making multiple water drops into the burning ravine while ground crews worked aggressively with progressive hose lays and hand tools to establish containment lines, extinguish hotspots, and suppress smoldering timber.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., the fire was declared contained. North Central Fire Protection District, Agate Fire Protection District, and State Engine 2991 remained on scene well into the evening conducting mop-up operations and patrolling the fire perimeter to ensure no remaining hotspots threatened rekindle.

No structures were lost during the incident. The fire burned an estimated 6.68 acres and was officially named the Chaparral Fire.

We are incredibly grateful for the rapid response and outstanding teamwork demonstrated by our department and all of our mutual aid partners. Because of those combined efforts, this fire was stopped before it could become something much worse.

Tonight North Central responded to a small fire that was a cause of lightning strikes. It started two small fires on the Northern tip of our district off of Ridge and 182. Thanks to our neighbors Deer Trail Volunteer Fire Department and Agate Fire Protection District for your mutual aid support. Fire was out and contained within no time.
