Meet the Health Insurance Agent of our chapter, Yoni Bick!

Yoni has been in this field for 4 years, and what initially got him started was that he wanted to help people understand how their insurance works and simplify what their options are to remove the confusion and complexity surrounding the insurance industry while getting the individual or group the best, most competitive coverage for their specific needs.

He works with Bick Insurance Consultants, a family-owned business operating for over 30 years. What initially got him interested in BNI was his desire to grow his business.

Yoni has been a part of BNI for 3 years now and he says, "It has helped me grow professionally as a business owner and leader. It has given me quality referral partners to refer out and trust with helping my clients, friends, and family."

Networking Tip #2 - Give Instead of Take 🤝

Avoid focusing on what they can do for you; instead, focus on what you can do for them. The best way to do this is to be a good listener. Learn about their values, passions, and needs. Then, you can offer your assistance.

One of our core values as an organization is called Givers Gain. By giving business to others, they will want to give business to you. In other words, if you help others succeed, they in turn will be motivated to help you.

To apply this, focus on building relationships with other business owners and professionals within your community. Be willing to help, support, and offer your expertise whenever you can. By doing so, you’ll be seen as an asset, and people will be more likely to refer business to you.

Remember: When you give, it will open new doors and create new referral opportunities.

Meet the Personal Injury Attorney of our chapter, Jessica Velardi!

Jessica obtained her Juris Doctorate degree from Nova Southeastern University – Shepard Broad College of Law, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Honors Program.

During her time at school Jessica served as an Articles Editor for ILSA Journal of International and Comparative Law, became president of Toastmasters International, and advocated on behalf of NSU Trial Association as well as Moot Court Honors Society.

Jessica worked for a well-respected personal injury law firm in Fort Lauderdale, Florida which sparked her interest in becoming a personal injury attorney; however, she decided to intern for a personal injury defense firm to understand the strategies and techniques used by the opposing side.

To gain more experience, Jessica became a judicial intern for the Honorable Judge Levenson where she learned trial strategies and observed court proceedings which helped her during her time as a Certified Legal Intern at the Broward County State Attorney’s Office, where she prosecuted a plethora of crimes in the misdemeanor division.
Apart from helping others who have been injured by the negligence of others, Jessica extends her passion for helping others beyond her career through volunteering for the Guardian Ad Litem Program where she advocates for children who have been abused or neglected.

She says, "BNI has helped network and make connections in multiple fields. I always know that I have a group of wonderful professionals that I can rely on and trust. “

What initially interested her to join BNI was the business structure it has.

One of the main reasons for success is referral marketing. The members of the chapter are your marketing team. Members will refer you to clients and lead when they encounter a person that you can help. That’s why we share our desired referrals with the group every week.

Three referrals Jessica would like to receive are from anyone who has experienced a rear-end collision, a T-Bone collision, or a slip and fall.

With our upcoming in-person networking meeting, we wanted to share some of our favorite networking tips!

Tip 1: Always keep an open mind.

When it comes to networking, it's all about making connections with people. Make sure to get to know a new person first before bringing up your resume. You don't have to force the conversations. Follow where they naturally flow.

When you meet someone with more experience, share with them about one of your main professional pain points and absorb their wisdom. When getting to know a peer, bounce leadership or training ideas off each other and take their valuable insights back to the office with you.
