You know the DNA results. Are you prepared to explain them in court?

Forensic DNA Expert Witness Testimony takes forensic DNA professionals beyond the laboratory and into the courtroom, where scientific findings must be communicated clearly, objectively, and confidently. This specialized training course explores the scientific,

✓ Admissibility — Explore expert qualifications, scientific reliability, validation, methodology, quality systems, and considerations affecting the admissibility of forensic DNA testimony.
✓ Activity-Level Reporting — Understand the important distinction between evaluating whose DNA may be present and considering how DNA may have been deposited.✓ Secondary Transfer — Examine
DNA transfer, persistence, recovery, alternative explanations, and the
limitations associated with determining how biological material reached an item or location.
✓ Legal Issues — Explore courtroom responsibilities, expert limitations, report language, case-file preparation, scientific literature, direct examination, cross-examination, and challenges to expert conclusions.

Participants will develop a stronger understanding of how to:

Yesterday, our team had the opportunity to participate in training focused on critical thinking and crime scene investigation, strengthening our understanding of scene processes and scenario analysis in forensic casework.
A special thank you to Jess Gerster of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office and Candace Matthews of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office for visiting our lab and sharing their knowledge and experience with our team.
We also had the pleasure of meeting Splash, the mystery-solving otter detective from the Peace River K9 Search and Rescue Association. Splash is two years old and is trained to locate human remains in low-visibility areas where traditional search dogs may not be able to work.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and for the important work you continue to do in support of our communities.
