Members of the Delran Fire Department, joined by members of the Riverton Fire Department, came together to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, by participating in the 9/11 Stair Climb. Together, our members climbed 55 flights of stairs, equivalent to 2,310 steps, in remembrance of the 343 firefighters and emergency responders who made the ultimate sacrifice that day. This event serves as a powerful reminder of the courage, and sacrifice demonstrated by first responders on 9/11 and continues to honor their legacy.

Tonight, our members took part in a hands on training exercise using building blocks to reinforce the importance of clear and effective radio communications. While stacking blocks may seem simple, the challenge quickly demonstrated how critical it is to give clear instructions, actively listen, acknowledge messages, and work together toward a common goal.

Just like on the fireground, every transmission matters. A missed detail, unclear direction, or lack of communication can change the outcome of an incident. Through exercises like this, our firefighters strengthen the skills that translate directly to real world emergencies improving teamwork, situational awareness, accountability, and decision-making under pressure.

Training doesn’t always involve fire, smoke, or hoses. Sometimes the best lessons come from simple exercises that reinforce the fundamentals.

The better we communicate, the better we perform and the better we can protect our community.

This evening Delran Fire Department responded to the area of St. Mihiel Drive and Main Street for a motor vehicle vs. train accident. Arriving units deemed everyone to be out of the vehicle and began assessing those on the train. With the assistance of multiple mutual aid EMS organizations, Cinnaminson Fire Department fire police units, Delran Township Police Department, Burlington County Central Communications, Riverside Police Department and NJ Transit Police units, crews were able to quickly and efficiently tend to those that needed assistance and es**rt them off the train to awaiting EMS crews, so they could be transported if necessary. The roadway and railway was soon after reopened to normal traffic and transit functions.
