The air is cooling rapidly as the sky breaks open and the rain falls swiftly, drumming the roof of my camper shell. It’s playing a mountain lullaby for Rafe and I as we lay here enjoying the break from the heat there was today. There isn’t much better than a mountain rainstorm, save the thunder that joins in. There’s something about being surrounded by towering mountains as nature plays for you, thundering its own ovation....

The black little heifer calf looked more like a Charolais as the snow from the late winter storm piled up on her small frame. She curled tighter into a ball to conserve what minimal heat she had left. Alone, cold, and afraid, she couldn’t rouse to look for her herd. She couldn’t smell them, hear them, and certainly couldn’t see them through the blinding blowing snow against the dark night....

I suppose we’ve been dormant long enough.

Had an amazing weekend last weekend running Badger in our first (now of many) skijoring competitions! 10th of 38 teams isn’t bad for our first time out. Had some amazing skiers we got the privilege to pull. Looking forward to entering more competitions before the snow goes away!

Listen to it. It roars and groans over and over. It beckons.
