Our hearts are saddened to hear the passing of Chief Dan Hopkins of the Hollis Fire & Rescue.

Dan was a friend to our department and was chosen many years ago to be an Honorary Member of the Turkey Heaven VFD. His unwavering support to each of the members and the department itself never went unnoticed. Boundary lines did not matter to Chief Hopkins, he was always our friend. He represented the Fire Service across the state in many ways very well.

This one hurts our membership, especially those who Dan touched over the years.

We ask that you remember his wife Stacey & family, the host of friends, and those members of the Hollis Fire & Rescue who are hurting with this loss.

Chief Hopkins will be missed by so many.

WEATHER UPDATE 🚨

The National Weather Service is closely monitoring a winter weather system expected to impact parts of Central Alabama. Current forecasts indicate a mix of cold rain, freezing rain, sleet, and possibly snow beginning Friday evening and continuing through the weekend.

Areas near and north of the Interstate 20 corridor, including Cleburne County, have a medium to high chance of winter storm impacts. Precipitation types may change throughout the event, but some locations could see a more persistent wintry mix.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for northern Central Alabama counties from 6:00 PM Friday through 6:00 PM Sunday.

Key Points to Know:
• Hazardous travel conditions are possible, especially due to icing.
• Frigid temperatures will follow the system Sunday night through Tuesday night, with lows potentially in the single digits and teens.
• In a worst-case scenario, icing could lead to travel disruptions, power outages, and infrastructure impacts, made worse by extreme cold.

Citizens are encouraged to monitor weather updates, limit travel if conditions worsen, and take steps now to prepare for cold temperatures and possible power outages. Updates will be shared as new information becomes available.

🚨 Winter Weather – Community Preparedness Notice ❄️

As a winter storm moves into our area, Cleburne EMS urges everyone to prepare now to stay safe and avoid emergencies if possible.

Please make sure you have:
• 🩺 Enough medications to last through the storm
• 🫁 Oxygen tanks fully stocked and working properly
• 🔥 Safe ways to stay warm in case of power outages
• 📱 Charged phones and emergency contacts ready

⚠️ Road conditions will likely be extremely dangerous. They will be just as hazardous for first responders as they are for everyone else. If you don’t absolutely need to travel, please stay off the roads.

Taking steps now helps keep you safe and allows EMS and other emergency crews to respond to the most critical calls during the storm.

Please check on neighbors, especially the elderly and those with medical needs.
Stay safe, stay warm, and be prepared.

Well written! Many people have a mind set that someone will do it. That someone is a generation away from no one. We all need good people willing to give a little of thier time to help thier friends, neighbors, and others in thier community!

You might as well turn this sucker off!
all the fire departments in the county need help. We’ve heard all the excuses. I can’t commit to (fill in the blank), I’m not always available, I’m too young/old, I don’t know anything about it. They are just excuses. We are all volunteers. We can when we can and we can’t when we can’t.
This is an incredible job you get paid for in ways that aren’t money. If you’ve ever thought about it, contact the VFD in your area. The hardest part, is walking through that station door the first time.
We all live in the communities we serve. How can you make a difference?
Every fire department across the country needs help.

It is with heavy hearts that the City of Anniston announces the passing of our beloved Anniston Fire Department Chief, Jeff Waldrep.

Chief Waldrep dedicated over 30 years of his life in faithful service to the people of Anniston. A true leader, mentor, and guardian of this community, he stood as a pillar of strength and compassion within our fire department and throughout our city.

Following a recent and major heart attack, Chief Waldrep fought valiantly—but today, we mourn his loss. His unwavering commitment to public safety, his fierce loyalty to his fellow firefighters, and his deep love for Anniston will never be forgotten.

We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Chief Waldrep’s family, his brothers and sisters in the Anniston Fire Department, and all who were privileged to serve alongside him.

May we honor his legacy by continuing the work he so passionately led—protecting and caring for one another with courage, dignity, and selflessness.
