A thangka from Tibet for restoration.

A thangka (Tibetan: ཐང་ཀ་; Nepal Bhasa: पौभा) is a Tibetan Buddhist painting on cotton, silk appliqué, usually depicting a Buddhist deity, scene, or mandala.

Thangkas serve as important teaching tools depicting the life of the Buddha, various influential lamas and other deities and bodhisattvas. One subject is the Wheel of Life (Bhavachakra), which is a visual representation of the Abhidharma teachings (Art of Enlightenment). The term may sometimes be used of works in other media than painting, including reliefs in metal and woodblock prints. Today, printed reproductions at poster size of painted thangka are commonly used for devotional as well as decorative purposes.

Are you passionate about art, design, and working with people? We’re looking for a detail-oriented, creative individual to join our team as a Custom Picture Framer!
What You’ll Do:
🎨 Assist customers in designing beautiful, custom picture frames.
😊 Provide friendly, professional customer service.
📞 Answer phone inquiries and assist with customer needs.
🖼️ Handle delicate and valuable artwork with care.
🤝 Collaborate closely with our team in a shared workspace.
What We’re Looking For:
✔️ Strong customer service and communication skills.
✔️ A creative eye for design and keen attention to detail.
✔️ Ability to work precisely with fragile materials.
✔️ Must love (or at least like) dogs! 🐶
Pay & Schedule:
💰 $18/hour training pay (negotiable based on experience and skills).
📅 Tuesday - Saturday, 10 AM - 5 PM
Experience in picture framing or art handling is a plus, but we’re happy to train the right person!

Restorations on canvas often call for the canvas to be re-backed with another canvas in order to stabilize the art.

Right here in our shop, we use heat, a vacuum seal especially for this purpose, and archival substrates to re-line. With 30+ years of experience in this method, you can rely on your most valuable and sentimental paintings to be restored with the utmost care and knowledge.
