A couple of important tax reminders:
📢 TAX SEASON ALERT: Don’t Leave Money on the Table! 💸
Tax season is in full swing, and we’ve already had several clients bring in extra documents after we started their returns. To make sure you get your refund as fast as possible (and avoid extra fees), keep these three things in mind:
1️⃣ Check Your Mailbox Twice! 📬
We’ve had three customers this morning alone bring in papers that arrived late. If I’ve already completed your return and a new form shows up, we have to file an amended return, which comes with an additional fee. Please make sure you have every W-2, 1099, and interest statement before you drop them off!
2️⃣ A Message for Parents & Dependents 🎓
Just because your student or teenager got a W-2 doesn't mean they should claim themselves!
The Rule: If they are your dependent, they must check the box that says "Someone can claim you as a dependent."
The Benefit: As long as they earned under the threshold (approx. $15,750 for 2025), they will usually get all their withheld federal tax back anyway!
The Risk: If they file incorrectly as "independent," it blocks you from claiming them. Fixing this involves a paper-amended return that can take 8–12 weeks to process before you can even file yours.
3️⃣ New Rules for 2025: Overtime, Tips, & New Cars! 🚗
The tax laws changed significantly this past year, and there are big savings available if you know where to look. If you did any of the following in 2025, you might be eligible for new deductions:
Worked Overtime: There is a new federal deduction for qualified overtime pay.
Earned Tips: New "No Tax on Tips" rules allow for a deduction of up to $25,000 in qualified tips.
Bought a NEW Car: If you bought a brand-new car (manufactured in the US) and paid loan interest, that interest may now be deductible!
These new rules involve extra forms (like the new Schedule 1-A) and can be tricky to navigate. Even if you usually do your own taxes, this is the year to let a professional handle it so you don't miss out on these savings.
Ready to file? We are accepting new customers! 🤝 I believe in flat-rate pricing—no "per-form" surprises or fluctuating fees. Simple returns are $100 and include a single state! Itemized and business returns are a bit higher and extra states are just $15 each.
Have a great day!
