After a business meeting the other day, I was angry. Anger is NOT an emotion I typically fall into often, so I had to look closer at that anger...
In that introspection, I realized I was angry at the negative conditioning we sometimes embody. That I at times embody.
Several things came up, and one of them is this over-identification with SELF-RELIANCE.
We are taught, not only in business but in our American culture independence and self-reliance. We have identified with it so deeply that we become afraid to even RECOGNIZE when we need help. When our bodies and minds are so worn down, we keep pushing past the exhaustion, out of sheer willpower... if there is any left or till our bodies cripple us intentionally.
I implore us to ask ourselves:
What is the purpose of our severe attachment to self-reliance... how has it served us?
Initially, it is empowering to be able to do the things we set out to do on our own, and in many cases, saves us money to do it on our own. Shoot, sometimes it is faster even, so we can move on to the next task and do it exactly the way we want it done.
But when does it become too much to carry? where is the line for yourself?
This might be conflicting for some people to read, but I sometimes wonder if this cultural promotion of self-reliance is really a ploy to keep us small... ponder this... if our corporations over-identified with self-reliance would they be corporations still?
Please feel free to💞share your own thoughts and introspections with SELF-RELIANCE, always open to understanding from other perspectives.
And be on the look out for more to come ☄!
It starts with CURIOSITY and emerges as COURAGE. 🌻
