Yesterday we honored mare Mingo, who in her desperate bid to remain free attacked the helicopter. Today we honor some exceptional people and organizations that worked tirelessly to put a halt to the roundup, and who are still working on behalf of The Wild Ones.
Many of you know Scott Wilson through his photographic work, especially his amazing image of Picasso (taken on his first visit to the Basin). Scott put up a fierce fight for these horses, he is a photographer advocate of the best character who actively gives back to the horses who have brought him much pleasure. https://www.facebook.com/Wilsonaxpe
Scott brought in friend Sandra Solin, of Capitol Solutions Inc. Sandra used her vast political contacts and clout and was instrumental in getting our Governor involved. Sandra had visited Sand Wash for the first time only a week before the gather. She knew she had to do something and tirelessly went to work to put a stop to the roundup.
Suzanne Roy, American Wild Horse Campaign, AWHC - thank you for your commitment to wild horses everywhere and for your direct help with Sand Wash Basin. SWAT appreciates you very much!
And finally our Governor Polis and the First Gentleman Marlon Reis, who were instrumental in influencing the Federal Government to stop the roundup early and leave more horses on the range than originally planned. The Governor stated he hoped improvements can be made for more humane treatment of wild horses, and that the early ending of the roundup shows how federal and state governments can potentially work together. He is
encouraged by the opportunity to chart a more humane course for our state’s beloved wild horses.
Thank you all for your tireless efforts on behalf of the wild horses of Sand Wash Basin, we are truly grateful.
