Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the countless acts of courage, compassion, and service that followed.

The National Day of Service and Remembrance is a reminder of when people choose to show up for one another, strengthen their communities, and turn remembrance into action.

Today, we honor those we lost, those who served, and all who continue to make a difference through service to others.

Project Angel Heart is looking for kitchen assistant volunteers to help chop, prep, and prepare fresh ingredients for our medically tailored meals.

Volunteers are especially needed Monday–Wednesday from 5–7 p.m. No professional kitchen experience is needed—just a willingness to lend a hand and support our mission. 💜

The strongest organizations don’t wait until they need funding to bring philanthropy into the conversation.

They make it part of the strategy from the beginning.

Ahead of International Day of Charity, we're reflecting on what makes philanthropy truly effective.

It's not only about the resources given. It's about the thinking behind them: trusting those closest to the work, investing for the long term, taking thoughtful risks, learning along the way, and staying focused on meaningful impact.

There may be no single formula for effective philanthropy, but there is an important question worth asking: How can we make what we give matter more?

What if philanthropy didn't just respond to problems, but helped change the conditions creating them?

For September's Powering the Future of Philanthropy spotlight, we're recognizing Darren Walker, whose leadership has challenged the sector to think more deeply about inequality, opportunity, and the role philanthropy can play in creating lasting change.

His work raises a question worth asking: Are we funding solutions to today's needs, or creating the conditions for fewer of those needs tomorrow?

Effective philanthropy requires both. Meeting immediate needs matters, but so does examining the systems behind them and considering where philanthropic resources can have lasting impact.

That's the kind of thinking that continues to power the future of philanthropy.

👋 Meet Kelly Church, MPW Senior Advisor

We're kicking off a new series introducing the people behind Make Philanthropy Work, beginning with Kelly!

Kelly is an experienced nonprofit and educational leader with a background in fundraising, strategic planning, and community engagement. Her career includes eight years as School Director at The Denver Waldorf School and serving as Executive Director of Colorado Springs Assets for Youth.

Today, she brings that leadership experience and passion for education and philanthropy to her work with MPW and our clients.

We're so glad to have Kelly on the team! 💛

Board members don't have to be professional fundraisers to make a difference in fundraising.

Highly engaged boards stay involved throughout the year: Making an introduction. Thanking a donor. Attending an event. Sharing the organization's story. Opening a door to a new relationship.

These actions may seem small, but together they can help build a stronger culture of philanthropy and a stronger fundraising program.
