It was a great day connecting with the community at the annual Brick City Picnic & Community Fair hosted by the A. Philip Randolph Institute!
Smart Local 9 was proud to be there recruiting the next generation of skilled tradespeople, sharing information about our apprenticeship opportunities, and talking with attendees about rewarding careers in the union sheet metal industry.

Happy Independence Day from SMART Local #9!

This Fourth of July is especially meaningful as we celebrate 250 years of American independence—a milestone that honors the courage, sacrifice, and determination of those who built our nation.

As SMART Local #9 members, we proudly continue that legacy every day. Whether we're fabricating and installing critical HVAC systems, improving indoor air quality, constructing schools and hospitals, protecting lives through fire life safety systems, or keeping our communities running, our members help build the America we celebrate.

Today, we honor the generations of workers who came before us and recognize the skilled union members who continue building a stronger future for the next generation.

Juneteenth is a time to reflect on our nation's history and celebrate the enduring values of freedom, equality, and opportunity. On June 19, 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued, enslaved Americans in Texas finally learned they were free. Juneteenth stands as a powerful reminder that freedom and justice must be continually advanced and protected.

As members of SMART Local 9, we recognize that the labor movement and the struggle for civil rights share a common foundation: the belief that every person deserves dignity, respect, and the opportunity to build a better life through their work.

Today, we honor the resilience, achievements, and contributions of Black Americans who have helped strengthen our communities, our industries, and our union. We also reaffirm our commitment to unity, fairness, and solidarity among all working people.

By standing together and supporting one another, we continue the work of creating opportunities for future generations and ensuring that the values of equality and justice remain at the heart of our movement.

📢 Know Your Rights. Know Your Responsibilities.

Article 16, Section 1(e) of the SMART Constitution & Ritual states that members in good standing should carry proof of membership at all times.

✅ Current dues receipt (paper or digital through the SMART App)
✅ Be prepared to provide immediate proof of membership when challenged by a SMART member in good standing who displays their own dues receipt
✅ A government-issued photo ID may also be required

Strong unions are built on accountability, solidarity, and active membership. Carrying your current dues receipt helps protect the integrity of our trade and our Brotherhood/Sisterhood.
