I keep thinking about AI and how we should influence government about wise strategies for managing it. I don’t think our leaders have taken the appropriate time to think about broad implications and impacts to our society, economy, education, and environment. There is absolutely a place for AI. There are obvious spaces where AI is not useful or beneficial.
I don’t think that AI should be forced on the general population through our basic communication and research tools. AI should be for advanced use, should be paid for in whole by advanced users and should be used to promote benefits to society as a whole, not a means of addiction, dumbing down, and protecting massive concentrated wealth.

I was reorganizing my office and saw some binders from classes I taught 10-15 years ago. Same topics that we always need in the workplace: team building, stress management, problem-solving, etc. I thought about stress management and how we are talking about building resilience, a little bit of a rebrand of the topic. I still see a misalignment in the learning content. I still see suggestions to eat better, exercise, meditate, reframe. And all of those suggestions are good and healthy but do they work well outside of the context of what is causing the stress? My answer is “no!” When we don’t actively problem-solve the source of the stress we do ourselves and the work a disservice. I posit that to truly manage stress and build resilience, we need to analyze the source and reframe and problem-solve. Once we can identify the problem and secondly plan strategies and tactics to be effective, then we can process that change by layering on exercise and meditation.

I want to highlight the misalignment that I have seen in many organizations regarding the application of personality traits. First, we know that personality assessments can be low in validity, meaning that they are not useful for predicting and controlling behavior outcomes. That said, they can be extremely useful as an introduction to soft skills. So, not useful for predicting how your co-worker will react or respond, but useful for looking inward and identifying your own preferences and values which drive your own actions.
This is an important aspect of alignment for your team members to work productively.
