It was an honor to welcome New Mexico State Senator Liz Stefanics to Juniper Sol — a community solar garden made possible by legislation she helped champion.
In 2021, Senator Stefanics sponsored Senate Bill 84, the groundbreaking Community Solar Act that established New Mexico’s community solar program and made the state the 21st in the nation to enable community solar.
The program was designed to make the benefits of solar more accessible across New Mexico. Each community solar garden must dedicate at least 30% of its capacity to low-income subscribers, while opening participation to renters, households, small businesses, nonprofits, Tribal communities, and others who may not have access to rooftop solar.
Four years after the Community Solar Act was signed into law, it was especially meaningful to welcome Senator Stefanics to Juniper Sol and see that vision taking shape firsthand.
Thank you, Senator Stefanics, for helping pave the way for a more accessible and inclusive community solar program in New Mexico.
