Who’s in Your Corner?

As the year winds down, I find myself reflecting, as I’m sure many of you are.
-How did this year measure up?
-Did I reach my goals?
-What didn’t go as planned?

And most importantly, what needs to change to make next year even better?

Lately, I’ve been having a lot of conversations with fractional executives asking themselves similar questions. One keeps coming up again and again.

Consistently landing clients for your fractional executive business isn’t as easy as updating your LinkedIn profile, reposting a couple of Inc 5000 articles and networking with anyone who has a pulse.

Following the common (and terrible) advice to network more! post more! and DM as many people as possible! has failed 100’s of fractionals I’ve spoken with over the past couple of years.

That approach didn’t work in 2023 and it’s even less effective in 2024 because buyers have been conditioned to ignore all the noise on LinkedIn.

This means your prospects are reluctant to accept your connection request and they almost never response to cold DM’s.

I’m on a quest to learn more about my target market and the people I serve, specifically their needs and how they think about the problems I can help them solve.

Getting clear on both their problem and the associated emotion is the secret to connecting with your audience. They want to know that you understand them and relate to them. When they do, they will trust you can help them.

I used ChatGPT to do some analysis and research and came away with a clear understanding that helped me create content and messaging that really resonates with my audience.

Don’t be a coffee shop shouter!

Imagine if you walked into a coffee shop filled with people having lively, engaging discussions and you jumped up on a table and started shouting loudly about how great you are and why all these people should listen to you.

What response do you think you’d get?

Would anyone listen? Would they care? Nope…

Would you feel frustrated and ignored? Probably…

That’s exactly what I see consultants and fractionals doing here on LinkedIn.

The coffee shop shouter approach leads to feeling like you’re not posting enough and your content isn’t good enough, and that’s why you’re not getting business from your efforts!

Wrong!!

Here are the 3 common mistakes I see B2B consultants and fractionals making on LinkedIn:

They forget this is a place to share their wisdom, not sell, sell, sell.

They forget that sharing their wisdom means sharing their best stuff. Don’t hold back, share it all!

They forget in B2B, the selling is done off of LinkedIn. The more of your best stuff you share, the more conversation you’ll start, the more opportunities you’ll create.
