This is the kind of work I love most: blending strategy with storytelling, data with design, and uncovering ways to romanticize the product and reframe the familiar. Jewelry is art, Retail is desire, we should treat it as so and marry the both to make it a destination.

Recently, I conducted an in-person SWOT analysis session with my client’s corporate team. What stood out most was how certain elements emerged as both threats and opportunities, depending on perspective.

This experience underscored the impact of our state of mind, timing, and both internal and external influences on our perception. An opportunity today can become tomorrow’s challenge—or vice versa—all depending on how we frame it. It was a powerful reminder of the role opinions and perspectives play in shaping business strategies - and in life.

What’s fascinating is that our opinions, often rooted in unique experiences and individual biases, can shift. By creating space for diverse perspectives, we can transform “threats” into valuable opportunities, gaining insights that drive thoughtful, informed decisions.

For example: Fierce competition can inspire the introduction of niche collections.

It’s not always glamorous, but here’s the reality behind the work 👉🏻

I just wrapped up a whirlwind, multi-city store tour for a multi-location jewelry client— 8 cities, 10 flights, 4 rental cars, and over 50 stores (including competitors) visited, all with just a 20” suitcase and mostly athleisure wear. This is what it takes to dive deep into product assortments, customer insights, secret shopping, and competitive analysis.

Now, with all the groundwork complete, it’s time to combine soft intel with hard data to begin the real work— building a re-assortment strategy that drives results and reimagining the brand through expression and physical branding.

I've been fortunate to witness the remarkable growth of Elle Hill and her team in recent years, serving as their Merchandising Expert since 2022. It was a true honor when Elle invited me to step into the role of Principal Consultant, further expanding my contribution to this dynamic team.

Hill & Co. has ambitious growth plans for the year, and the addition of Donatella Zappieri, bringing her incredible experience and glamor from Italy, adds another layer of global jewelry business expertise to our team.

Reflecting on my college days at the Fashion Institute of Technology always brings back the exhilarating memory of being the Show Captain and leading a team of student volunteers during New York Fashion Week🧵🪡

Throw back to 2000, I was only 19 years old when my local newspaper featured an article about my experience at what was then known as ‘7th on 6th’ Fashion Week in Bryant Park. While the headline may no longer be relevant, and despite the changes in my appearance (grey hairs now and not-so-fresh face), one thing remain constant: the continuous evolution of trends and fashion.

The skills I acquired during my early days as a Merchandising Major at FIT continue to shape my approach in both of my businesses, FACEts Jewelry Consulting and LuxeRox. Attention to detail, analytics, logistics, adaptability, effective communication, and above all, a commitment to staying atop this ever-evolving industry have been my guiding forces as a Buyer, Planner, and Merchandising Consultant for the trade. I’m excited about the learning and challenges that lie ahead in 2024!
