Here's our question of the week - have you ever encountered this when job searching?

Q: I have a phone interview coming up. I am very nervous... I initiated the called with an email, and now I don’t want to come off as too pushy from this point on.
Any advice or pointers before I make the call?

A: Kudos on being so mindful of the impression you’re about to make!

Consider viewing the conversation less as an interview about you, and more like a conversation where you’ll make a meaningful connection with the employer and discuss how to solve THEIR problems. Think of the Kennedy principle: “Ask not what the employer can do for you but what you can do for the employer.”

This mindset alone will help you to overcome any feelings of pushiness you’re experiencing.

Do your homework on the organization, the person with whom you will be speaking, and any other relevant information pertaining to this opportunity. Then shape your USP (your unique selling proposition) and how what you bring to this organization that will be of value to them.

With all this, you won’t appear as pushy. You’ll show up as being someone that wants to help move the needle and make the organization better.

Best of luck on your interview!
