Great afternoon at Northland Workforce Training Center today hearing Governor Kathy Hochul talk about SUNY Reconnect and the future of workforce development in New York.
One thing really stood out to me: the workforce is changing fast.
AI and technology are changing the types of jobs people will have in the future, while at the same time we have a growing need for skilled people who can actually build, install, operate and maintain the infrastructure our economy depends on.
New York is investing in giving adults ages 25–55 an opportunity to go back to school and earn a degree in high-demand fields at no cost for tuition, fees, books and supplies. Those fields include advanced manufacturing, engineering, technology, green and renewable energy, AI, cybersecurity and others.
This couldn’t align better with what we’re building at Buffalo Solar and our new headquarters and Center for Energy Empowerment in Alden.
There are already great organizations like Northland developing people and preparing them for careers in the skilled trades. We want to be part of the next step — creating employment opportunities and giving people continued hands-on experience with commercial solar, battery storage, microgrids, EV infrastructure, geothermal, controls and the energy systems that are going to power the next generation of buildings.
And through IntrAform, we’re working on the other side of that equation — developing the next generation of buildings where many of these technologies will actually be deployed.
Education → Training → Employment → Experience → Careers.
The energy transition isn’t just about technology. It’s about people.
Buffalo Solar and IntrAform couldn’t be more excited to be part of what’s happening right here in Western New York.
