SITUATIONAL AWARENESS TIP: Identifying the entrances and exits in a building and positioning yourself accordingly is key to the Situational Awareness Specialist. When you sit in a restaurant, are you cognizant of where you are sitting? Where you are facing? Can you see someone enter the restaurant from where you are sitting? These questions and your interventions to them can help you in a dangerous situation should one ever arise. Next time you are out with the family, think about where you are located in a room. It could be the decision between life and death one day.

SITUATIONAL AWARENESS TIP: It is equally important to also notice people around you just as you notice objects in your environment. Does this person look threatening? Have I seen them before? Have I seen them in multiple locations of my daily routine? Are they following me? These are all questions that should be emerging while in your commute. Attacks can happen anywhere and at any time. For the situational awareness practitioner, we are not soft targets.

SITUATIONAL AWARENESS TIP: Improving your awareness starts with being mindful of your surroundings. When you enter a new environment do you think about the things around you? What can be a benefit to you? What can be used as a weapon against you? For instance, imagine yourself in this diner, take a moment to identify all objects in the immediate vicinity. It should only take a few seconds to get a preliminary survey of your surroundings. Implementing this effectively, can give you an advantage when a dangerous situation presents.

Meet our newest member to the team, Senior Training Instructor Kenneth Thaxter. Mr. Thaxter is an accomplished and driven law enforcement professional with over 25 years of experience in the field. Mr. Thaxter’s most notable positions were as a S.W.A.T Operator, Crisis Negotiator, D.A.R.E Officer, and Patrol Officer. Mr. Thaxter is now dedicated to excellence in training the future group of tacticians that will protect the most prominent figures in our world. As an instructor for Bandog Private Security, he serves as a law enforcement subject matter expert and trains close protection agents, law enforcement personnel, and other protective services personnel in law enforcement procedures and techniques.
