Beachgoers often mistakenly go into the water between waves where it appears calmer. This is actually the location of a rip current. Remember to check the flags before going into the Gulf and know that most drownings occur during Red flags. Red means HIGH HAZARD - rough conditions, strong surf and currents. Be safe. Double Red means WATER IS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC.
