TGIF, RCG followers! Here's what's happening around town this weekend:

Did you know you can now officially walk or bike for free from Detroit to Canada? The Gordie Howe International Bridge is officially open and free, and the Detroit entrance is located at 6366 West Jefferson Avenue. Valid travel documents are required: U.S. citizens should bring one of the following: a valid U.S. passport book, U.S. passport card, Michigan enhanced driver’s license, or an enhanced state ID. Travelers who are not U.S. citizens should review both Canada’s entry requirements and the documents needed to re-enter the United States before heading out. The path is open from 8am to 8pm, with last entry at 7pm. There is no public parking at either port of entry. In Detroit, there is a Trailhead at Clark Park in Southwest, which is 1.6 miles to the path entrance.

Today, Friday, August 7th:

-6 – 8:30 PM at the , Drawing in the Galleries: Native American. Create a pencil drawing to take home while taking a closer look at the collection. No experience is necessary. All supplies provided. For ages 6 - Adult (children ages 12 and younger should be accompanied by an adult). Capacity is limited.

-Boyne City Pirate Fest, 8/6-8/8 | All Day Old City Park - 223 River Street, Boyne City, MI. Free

-7PM at the Detroit Film Theatre is CatVideoFest 2026,
Ticket Prices: General Admission $11.50, DIA Members, Seniors, Students $9, additional showings available on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday August 8th:

-6 AM – 4 PM, Eastern Market: Saturday Market, all sheds open. 2934 Russell, Detroit, 48207

-9 AM-Noon: Park Farmer’s Market, Fresh Truck Mobile Market, 15200 Kercheval Ave. Grosse Pointe Park 48230

-9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Tournament of Historic Base Ball at Greenfield Village.
Free for members or with village admission, runs through Sunday.

-Saturday, August 6 | 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Sunday, August 7 | 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Belle Isle Art Fair and food trucks. Admission is free with a Recreation Passport.

-12:00 pm - 9:00 pm: Pierogi Festival at Sweetest Heart of Mary Church, 4440 Russell Street, Detroit.

Sunday August 9th:

-10:00 am - 4:00 pm: Detroit Foodie Fair and Detroit Vegan 2026. Eastern Market, Shed 5 2810 Russell St., Detroit, MI

Honoring Juneteenth ✊🏾🇺🇸
Today is Juneteenth, and it is an incredibly important day of reflection, celebration, and education. Also known as Freedom Day, June 19th marks the historic day in 1865 when the delayed news of liberation finally reached the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
