May is Speech Language Hearing Month! 🦻🏻🗣️💕
Being a Speech Language Pathologist is more than just teaching speech sounds (though, articulation is my absolute favorite thing to treat). We help your grandparents talk again after having a stroke. We help with infant feeding/swallowing. We help with fluency disorders, language disorders, hearing, and so much more. We can work with newborns to the elderly. We are not mental health therapists, but are trained in the area of counseling. We can help you work through problems, organize your thoughts, and help you recall information. We can help an autistic child find their voice through the help of an AAC device. In the schools, we hold near 100 IEP related meetings a year, write several progress reports for every child, and bill Medicaid. In the hospital, we conduct barium swallow studies and give special diets when warranted.
I love my career. ♥️
