Our City of Detroit Commercial Blight Removal Project was recognized for its commitment to safety and training throughout the project. It is an honor to be among those shortlisted and recognized alongside outstanding projects from across the demolition industry.

We would like to thank the World Demolition Awards judges for their time and consideration and congratulate all of this year’s finalists. We’re honored to be recognized alongside so many great companies and projects within the demolition industry.

Last Friday, our team came together for our Annual Safety Lunch, an opportunity to recognize our employees and reinforce the commitment to safety that extends across every job site, project, and team.

This year’s lunch coincided with OSHA’s Safe + Sound Week, a nationwide initiative highlighting the importance of strong workplace safety and health programs. We’re proud to take part and continue building a culture where everyone plays a role in keeping our teams safe.

Progress continues at the Former Wayne County Jail project in downtown Detroit. 🏗️

With the main structure now demolished, our crews are focused on sorting and separating scrap, concrete, and debris for removal. Concrete and scrap are being trucked to local recycling facilities as we continue clearing the site safely and efficiently.

To reverse decades of disinvestment, Oakland County partnered with the State of Michigan and the City of Pontiac to redevelop the historic downtown. Adamo was selected to demolish the Phoenix Center, a sprawling 1.4-million-square-foot complex featuring a post-tensioned concrete parking garage and a 6,000-seat amphitheater.

The urban project presented severe technical and logistical challenges. Heavily trafficked pedestrian and vehicular corridors bounded the site, The structure sat directly over a 4-lane state highway, and was intersected by critical infrastructure, including the buried Clinton River and aging high-voltage and fiber-optic utility duct banks. Furthermore, numerous occupied buildings were in close proximity.

Adamo leveraged its 60+ years of experience, over $40 million in specialized equipment, and advanced digital fleet management tools to safely execute the project. By implementing a low-impact operational system and performing work during off-hours, Adamo maintained full community activity, protected local businesses, and ensured uninterrupted traffic. Highly complex tasks, such as the surgical removal of a 30-foot pedestrian bridge attached to an occupied apartment building, were completed seamlessly.

Adamo's comprehensive site safety program achieved zero health and safety incidents over 15,000 manhours. Additionally, Adamo recycled 204,041 tons of material (99.8% of total waste) and salvaged 2,500 stadium seats for county reuse. By overlapping demolition with incoming construction, Adamo delivered the project over a month ahead of its aggressive 11-month schedule and entirely on budget. This saved Oakland County millions of dollars, paving the way for an $80 million revitalization effort.

Former Prison Demolition Project -

The 1.9 million-square-foot American Axle & Manufacturing (renamed Dauch Corp) complex in Detroit and Hamtramck was demolished primarily between 2013 and 2014 by Adamo Demolition https://www.adamogroup.com . The main manufacturing plants were largely cleared following the closure of production operations. Demolition Scope: cleared the sprawling site, handling asbestos abatement and onsite concrete crushing, and finished with the removal of a massive 36,000-pound utility trestle spanning an active railroad.
