Take a chance and embrace life’s uncertainties. Imagine a tree: the trunk represents safety and comfort, while the sturdy branches offer a sense of security. Yet, have you ever considered the thin, swaying branches? They, too, have their purpose and can grow surprisingly strong.
Recently, I found myself reflecting deeply at the funeral of a remarkable man I met over 20 years ago, Luther Keith. I had the honor of being part of the team that crafted the first strategic plan for a now-renowned organization in Detroit called "Arise Detroit." After we completed the plan, Luther invited my husband and me to one of his captivating “Badman Blues” sessions—a vibrant and soulful event that marked the beginning of many cherished memories. Luther epitomized living fully; he stepped out onto the thin branches of life, making the most of every moment.
Currently, I am slowly embracing a solo life—a new chapter unfolds after a year since the love of my life passed on to the ancestors. As I sat in the quiet, echoing sanctuary of the church, my takeaway was there could be fulfillment of life on the skinny branches. I felt a profound urge to rise from my deep grief and begin anew. I want to take that courageous step onto the fragile, daring branches of life and truly live. Thank you, Luther, for inspiring me to seize this moment and begin my own journey of renewal.
