Most Bike-Friendly Cities.
‘ PeopleForBikes released its ninth annual City Ratings, in which it used data to measure the quality of biking in more than 3,000 cities and communities across the United States. For its study, the team at PeopleForBikes used its Bicycle Network Analysis software, which measured how easily and safely people in a given area can reach everyday destinations via bicycle.
This year’s large community findings aren’t too surprising. The top five are the same as last year: Brooklyn (70), Minneapolis (68), Seattle (66), Queens, New York (63), and San Francisco (61). However, a few things were different in the top 10. “Milwaukee (57) entered the top 10 this year as the city met its goal to build 50 miles of protected bikeways by 2026,” said the team. “Detroit (55) also entered the top 10, as the city continues to build out the Joe Louis Greenway, a nearly 30-mile route around the city.” ’
Archive DS was the team urban designer for the Detroit’s long term Mon-Motorized Masterplan which identified long term biking and pedestrian routes and destinations throughout the city.
Increased mobility options are paramount in achieving a truly accessible city in every connotation of the word.
