More than 50 years ago, our story began with one truck, one trailer, and a vision.

In 1971, our founder, John A. James, started James Group in with a commitment to excellence, opportunity, and creating a path forward—not only for his own company, but for those who would come after him.

His impact would reach far beyond the business he built. James became the first African American to secure authority for both intrastate and interstate transportation of goods in Michigan, helping break down barriers for minorities seeking opportunities in the industry. In 2024, the Automotive Hall of Fame recognized his pioneering legacy by inducting him into the Hall.

Today, that vision has grown from a family-run freight business into a trusted organization serving customers and industries across the country.

Investing in young people means investing in the future of our entire community.

James Group was proud to support and attend the Vista Maria Empowerment Lunch, an inspiring gathering of Metro business and community leaders committed to making a difference in the lives of young people.

This year’s event helped raise awareness and support for the Vista Shepherd Hall program and youth in our community who are aging out of foster care, while giving young adults from Vista Maria’s Independent Living programs an opportunity to share their experiences and perspectives.

We’re grateful for organizations like Vista Maria that continue to create pathways for young people to build confidence, independence, and brighter futures.
