We are a nonprofit business service organization that provides programs, education and resources for early- to growth-stage small businesses and tech entrepreneurs. We own and operate a 135,000-square-foot building in Detroit’s New Center that supports coworking, offices, meetings and events. By building bridges for entrepreneurs to succeed, we are accelerating an inclusive and equitable economy for Detroit and Southeast Michigan.

This Small Business Saturday calls for a stop at JP Makes and Bakes!

We visited TechTown and Hatch Detroit alum Jonathan Peregrino’s New Center bakery to try a few treats and get a taste of the Filipino flavors behind his scratch-made menu.

Congratulations to TechTown alum Denisse Lopez Avila on receiving a Spirit of Detroit Award in recognition of her contributions to the community!

As co-owner of Vámonos Cafe & Studio in Southwest Detroit, Denisse has created a welcoming place for families to gather, enjoy healthy food, and stay active. The business grew from a need she saw in her own neighborhood and reflects her commitment to making wellness more accessible.

Her dedication extends beyond entrepreneurship through service on nonprofit boards, involvement in PTAs, and plans to launch a nonprofit supporting Detroit youth through art and music.

This year's Toast of the Town was one for the books, with a record-breaking turnout and an incredible evening celebrating the entrepreneurs, innovators, and small businesses that make Detroit special.

From delicious bites by local food businesses to exciting tech demonstrations, live entertainment, and plenty of familiar faces, the night was a reminder of just how much there is to celebrate in our entrepreneurial community.

And the winners are in!

A huge congratulations to Jamal Carter of Inspiry, Evol Johnson of CommuniTV and Zanne Ngatchou of Wattupdoe, the top three winners of the 2026 Venture 313 AI Buildathon!

These builders took on real challenges facing Detroit and turned their ideas into working digital solutions, ultimately taking the stage to pitch what they created at the Buildathon Showcase.

The Buildathon was all about seeing what can happen when Detroit’s creativity, problem-solving and emerging technology come together, and this year’s builders delivered.

Congratulations to our winners and to everyone who brought an idea, built something new, and helped make this year’s Buildathon happen!
