This is a great visual representation of the Federal highway initiatives that demolished Black neighborhoods. Detroit's Black Bottom neighborhood was demolished to make way for Interstate 375. This highway is now slated for removal by 2027 but with little to no physical remnants of the original neighborhood, who will actually benefit from the impending land grab?

Decades ago, the federal highway boom tore apart historically Black neighborhoods across the U.S. The legacy of this racist federal transportation policy continues to define urban spaces, even as some cities look to reconnect these communities.

This is a fascinating insight into both a research work-in-progress and scholarly advocacy. Pretty cool to see a historian actively thinking about how to carry their findings into school curricula.

I was not familiar with Prince Hall or the movement of Black Freemasons before this article but look forward to learning more from her and the Edmond J. Safra Center project.

We have some news! While it had been set to close at the end of 2020, the Detroit 67: Perspectives exhibition at the Detroit Historical Museum is becoming permanent. It will be dedicated in honor of Marlowe Stoudamire, Detroit 67 Project Director, who lost his life to Covid-19 last year.

“The history shared by this exhibition has become increasingly important in the four years since it debuted. Marlowe’s influence runs strong throughout the project, and his recorded voice is present in many of the audio features in the exhibition. We simply can no longer imagine the Detroit Historical Museum without Marlowe’s voice and this important story.”
