June 19th, 1865 the soldiers, let by Major General Gordon Granger, went to Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended & that the enslaved were now free.
Only in recent years have we seen recognization for this holiday on a national level but we should be more familiar with the stories and people that made the freedom of Black Americans possible.
This month take some time to educate yourself on how far we’ve come & celebrate those making strides to take us further!
