A business owner once told me:
"Everyone wants vacation at the same time. Summer is a nightmare."
When we looked closer, the problem wasn't the vacation requests.
The problem was that there was no plan

▪️ No cross-training
▪️ No backup coverage
▪️ No communication around peak vacation periods
Every request felt like a crisis because the business was reacting instead of preparing.
Fast forward one year
▪️ The team submitted vacation requests earlier
▪️ Managers planned coverage in advance
▪️ Employees were cross-trained
People still took vacations.
The difference was that the business kept running smoothly. Summer doesn't create staffing problems. It exposes them.
The organizations that handle vacation season best are usually the ones that have built the right people processes long before summer arrives.
