I know everyone likes posts short and sweet so they’ll stick around. But The Smooth Mover, The Night Shift General, and Captain Calm simply deserve more than a paragraph. So I hope you’ll take 60 seconds to read this.

Barry Price. He’s been with us for about a year now, and in that time he’s become one of the strongest parts of this team. When you bring someone on, you hope they’ll be good. With Barry, I expected that from the start—but he’s gone way beyond just good. He’s been incredible.

As our Night Shift Manager, Barry’s role is not easy. Some nights are quiet. Other nights, twelve calls come in within a few hours. He takes every call, dispatches crews with zero mistakes, and still goes out on those calls himself as a working manager. And on top of all that, he makes sure every response happens within our 60-minute window—no excuses, no misses.

Watching Barry in action inspires me to work harder every single day, because he deserves it. He’s lifted this team higher, made my life easier, and become not just a trusted manager but also a true friend. On top of all that, he’s an incredible father—balancing a demanding role here while still showing up for his kids in the same steady, dependable way he shows up for this team.

Now yes… he is a Michigan fan. That’s his one flaw. But nobody’s perfect, and we all get at least one bad decision in life.

Barry, thank you—for trusting in me, for inspiring this team, and for proving every single day that the little things add up to something much bigger.

Team Shoutout: Austin Haymon

Every solid crew has a few people who just get it. They show up, figure things out fast, and make you wonder how you ever ran the place without them. For us, Austin Haymon is one of those people.

Austin’s been part of the Silveys team for a few years now, and from the jump, he hit the ground running like someone was timing him (they weren’t, but he still would’ve won). He learned the ropes fast, kept a great attitude, and has been getting consistent praise from families and funeral directors ever since. You know you’re doing something right when even grieving people are taking time to compliment you.

Earlier this year, our longtime manager Rich stepped into a new opportunity, which left us all thinking: how the hell do we follow that? Those were big shoes to fill—like, steel-toed size 14s. But Austin, even with some nerves, stepped up and said, “Let’s see what I can do.”

And man, did he deliver. Not only did he take on the role, but he’s gone beyond what the job description asked—teaching himself new things, supporting the team, and finding ways to make this strange little world of ours run smoother.

Look, this job isn’t for the faint of heart. We deal with weird hours, heavy lifting (both physical and emotional), and more curveballs than a minor league pitcher. But having Austin in the mix makes everything feel a bit more solid, a bit more manageable, and a whole lot more human.

Thank you, Austin. Seriously. You’re a huge part of why this team works.

(Also, Rich called and said you’re not allowed to get too good at this or he’s gonna start feeling threatened.)

"Most people assume working at Silveys must be full of sadness… and yes, there are emotional moments. But what they don’t see is the joy, the purpose, and the incredible honor behind what we do.

Every day, our team is trusted to enter homes filled with love, stories, and laughter—where families are celebrating a life that was well lived. Many loved ones pass peacefully, surrounded by those they cared for most. And we’re the ones who get to help carry that moment forward with care and dignity.

Our job is not just about transport—it’s about showing up with compassion when it matters most. We’re a steady hand in a storm, a calming presence when families are letting go, and a team that treats every individual as if they were our own.

It’s not always easy. Sometimes we have to set our emotions aside, lean on each other, and keep moving forward. But in doing so, we’ve built a bond and a purpose that’s hard to describe—and even harder to find anywhere else.

You might not expect to see so many smiles in a line of work like this…
But that’s the beauty of Silveys.

If you feel called to serve with heart, integrity, and humanity—our doors are open."

Remembering Al Abrams

Al Abrams was one of my dad’s best friends growing up. After high school, the two of them jumped into business together and bought a liquor store — the start of a friendship and partnership that shaped both of their lives. Al started out working for Red Austin, cleaning cars and learning the ropes, before eventually finding himself purchasing Silveys from Gordon Silvey and making it his own.

Years later, I was lucky enough to work for Al too — every summer break, every winter break, and pretty much any free moment I had. Al was truly one of a kind. He was sharp, kind, and just the right amount of “strange” to keep things interesting. Watching him interact with families and loved ones was inspiring. He had this rare gift for putting people at ease when they needed it the most.

For roughly 15 years, Al ran Silveys and built a reputation across the state. Anyone in this line of work knew “the guy with the mustache” — and lord knows I’ve tried, but God didn’t bless me with that same mustache-growing ability!

It’s been nine years since Al passed, and I still carry his lessons with me every day. They’re the foundation of what Silveys has become. I like to think he’s looking down on this team and smiling — proud that we’ve kept going, growing, and honoring the values he held close.

Thank you for everything, Al. We wouldn’t be here without you.

In 2022, we opened the doors to our brand-new headquarters—custom-built by people who’ve been in the transportation business for over 30 years. It’s clean, modern, and designed with hospitals, medical examiner offices, and funeral homes in mind—especially when space runs short or next of kin can’t be immediately located.

Here’s what we’re working with:
✅ State-of-the-art walk-in cooler
✅ 24/7 ADT-monitored (building and cooler)
✅ Backup Generac system – because even when the power blinks, the care doesn’t
✅ Designed by pros, for pros
✅ Open 24/7/365
✅ Transport to and from the cooler available—and often included

When families need time, hospitals need space, or logistics get tricky—we’ve got it handled.

Call soon—this cooler’s becoming the hottest cold spot in town.
