Where are all the fulfilling part-time jobs?

This was a question I first saw posed by Sarah Johnston in relation to working moms and women in the workplace on LinkedIn a while back.

Her post really got me thinking. Why aren’t there more meaningful part-time job opportunities out there in general?

So, Tiffany Waddell Tate () and I decided to discuss it on this episode of The ClariTEA Podcast.

I think that if there were more meaningful part-time opportunities, this would provide an innovative avenue for people to:
💡get back into the workforce
💡exercise different skillsets
💡experience different company cultures, and
💡maybe, just MAYBE, find some peace in their professional lives

What do YOU think? Let me know in the comments.

Oh, and don’t forget to check out the episode and post that inspired it at the link in my bio or comments below!

Thanks again to Tiffany for hopping on the pod.

What do the state of California and the city of New York’s job markets have in common?

Soon, candidates in both markets will see salary ranges on job postings thanks to new laws.

A few weeks back, I got to discuss the idea of salary ranges on job postings with Kendall Paige of .

A couple of things we discuss:
➡️ What are employers trying to hide by not posting salary ranges?
➡️ Could this be the tipping point for companies to figure out a national strategy for posting salary ranges?
➡️ Why some people criticize posting salary ranges and think this could be detrimental to Black and PoC candidates.
➡️ How posting ranges can save both the candidate and company time.

Check out the episode and Bloomberg article that inspired it at the link in my bio or comments below!

Thanks again to Kendall for hopping on the pod; I can’t wait to have her back!

Is quiet quitting for Black professionals?

This week, guest co-host Jasmin Forts MBA, CPCC, and I dive into one of the most common topics in career news today, quiet quitting.

An article in The Root titled “Beyoncé Told Us Not to Let Work Break our Soul. Is “Quiet Quitting” The Answer?” inspired our conversation.

We discuss:

➡️ How recruiters need to shift their engagement with candidates
➡️ Why quiet quitting might not be for Black professionals
➡️ Is it quiet quitting or setting boundaries?

With Jasmin’s extensive background in talent acquisition, she drops some gems on this episode. Don’t miss it!

ICYMI: The latest episode of The ClariTEA Podcast dropped yesterday!

In this episode, guest co-host Dr. Clyde Barnett III and I talk about the state of hiring in higher education.

Full transparency, Dr. Barnett is one of my good friends, so we got really comfortable and candid on this episode. No, seriously, we are shaking the table on this episode.

We discuss the article "The Prestige Hierarchy: Five Universities Trained One Of Every Eight Tenure-Track Faculty At Doctoral Universities."

A couple of takeaways:
➡️ The state of higher ed's job market is… "a mess, cumbersome, lacking, and behind."
➡️ When searching for jobs in higher ed, ask a lot of questions and do a lot of research.
➡️ Admission practices at prestigious universities directly impact the hiring diversity for tenure-track roles
"Higher education loves to innovatively do the same thing."

You definitely don't want to miss this episode, whether you're in high education or not!

Back to the office of nah?

This week on The ClariTEA podcast, I had the honor of having L Michelle Smith, M.S. ACC, the CEO & Founder of No Silos Communications, as my first guest.

Since L. Michelle coaches executive leaders, I thought this was an excellent time for us to discuss companies trying to return to the office.

The convo was inspired by an article in the Wall Street Journal titled “Enough, Bosses Say: This Fall, It Really Is Time to Get Back to the Office.” You can check the article out at the link in the comments or my bio!

Listen to the episode to hear our takes on whether companies should be forcing their employees back into the office. Also, listen so you can get the exclusive news she dropped about her book!

What do you think? Should companies REQUIRE employees to come back into the office?

I’ve been gone for a minute, and now I’m back at the jump off! Yes, I am alive y’all.

But in all seriousness, I’ve largely been missing from social media for the past 2 years because I simply needed a mental break. The s**t was just too much.

After recouping and reflecting on the new direction I want to take, I’m back with a new podcast, The ClariTEA Podcast on the Living Corporate Network.

Almost 5 years ago, I started working with Living Corporate, and since then, I’ve provided over 200 tips to help listeners advance their careers. But I’m all tipped out, and I wanted to provide an avenue for others in the space to share their knowledge.

So, Living Corporate and I worked together to drop a weekly podcast with 20 - 30 minute episodes, where you’ll not only gain insight to help you transition your career, but we’ll have raw, unfiltered conversations about equity and access, or lack thereof, in Corporate America.

I really want to use this as a platform to reconnect with many of the people I used to interact with on social media in the career development space. So, most weeks, we’ll be joined by a special guest cohost, mainly career coaches, resume writers, HR Professionals, and hiring managers.

But some weeks, you’re going to get just me discussing the latest career news, trends, tips, and things that, quite frankly, just p**s me off about Corporate America.

The first episode dropped today and I’d really appreciate if you head over to Apple Podcast, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts to check it out and give us 5 stars!

You all are going to be hearing more from me in the coming days, so stay tuned 😉

Honestly, this was the first time I heard of something like this.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve heard of employers paying for travel accommodations during the interview process, but never paying someone for their time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m a firm believer that a company’s hiring process is a strong indication of how they care for their people. I believe gestures like this show that the company respects and values your time, even as a candidate, which speaks volumes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have you ever experienced or heard of this? Do you think this should become standard practice?

Are you connecting with the right people when networking?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When it comes to networking, especially on LinkedIn, we need to be mindful of who we're connecting with.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Networking with people outside of your industry can be fun and is something you should do, but it will not help land you the position you're seeking.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are 2 types of people I suggest you connect with during your job search.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Check out this clip where I explain those two categories and why they should be your focus. If you want to see more, the link is in my bio!

Beliefs are typically tied to our identity and shape how we see and interact with the world. They help us create and make sense of a shared world so we can live, work, and do things together.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Our beliefs slowly develop over time by mixing theories and judgments based on selected facts and personal experiences. Most of our beliefs aren’t facts, and they tend to create blind spots. They trap us and blind us to all the possibilities out there.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are opportunities around you all the time, every day, and in many cases, you are unable to see them because limiting beliefs blind you to real possibilities.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Your biggest blind spot is yourself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So start assuming that you aren’t objective, let go of what you think you know and start asking questions.
