Virginia school leaders: there’s an important school safety requirement to keep on your radar.
Virginia public schools are now expected to complete and certify their school safety inspections annually, using a standardized checklist that incorporates Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles.
With the annual certification due by August 31, now is the time to understand the requirements and begin planning; not next summer.
Over the coming months, VTS will be sharing more about CPTED, what schools should be evaluating, and how to prepare.

New security funding is coming to Montgomery County, MD nonprofits.
The FY27 Nonprofit Security Grant Program provides up to $15,000 per facility for eligible expenses, including professional security assessments, planning, training, security personnel, drills, and camera systems.
A comprehensive security assessment can help your organization identify vulnerabilities and prioritize improvements before investing in equipment or other measures. VTS is ready to help qualifying nonprofits better understand their risks and strengthen their security posture.

Maryland school districts have a new opportunity to strengthen campus safety.

The FY2027 Safe Schools Fund Grant is now open to all local public school systems in Maryland. Each district may apply for up to $25,000, and eligible uses specifically include hiring school safety consultants to conduct safety evaluations and assess the findings.

VTS helps school systems identify vulnerabilities, evaluate existing safeguards, and develop practical, prioritized recommendations for improvement.

Applications are due September 30. Don’t wait to begin planning.
