Last night, Deville Fire Department celebrated the official push-in ceremony for Squad 61, our newest mini pumper.

The push-in ceremony is a long-standing fire service tradition dating back to the days of horse-drawn fire apparatus. After returning from a call, firefighters would have to manually push the apparatus back into the station because the horses were housed separately. Over the years, the tradition has remained as a way to officially welcome new apparatus into service.

We’re proud to carry on that tradition as we put Squad 61 in service and look forward to the many years of service ahead.

Yesterday, Deville Fire Department trained with FETA using their mobile drill tower prop. Firefighters practiced supplying a mobile standpipe system from supply line and an extension ladder before connecting a high-rise pack and advancing to the simulated fire floor.

Thank you to FETA for providing the training, and to all of the departments that came out to train with us, including Grant Parish Fire, Ruby-Kolin Fire, and everyone else who participated. We appreciate the opportunity to train together and continue sharpening our skills.

Today, members of Deville Fire Department joined multiple local and state agencies for a tabletop exercise simulating an ammonia pipeline leak.

This collaborative training brought together representatives from the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, Rapides Parish Communications Center, Pafford EMS, Sunoco, and several other partner agencies to strengthen our coordinated response to a hazardous materials emergency.

Exercises like these allow us to evaluate emergency plans, improve communication between agencies, and ensure we’re prepared to protect our community should a real incident occur.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped make today’s exercise a success. Working together today helps keep our community safer tomorrow.

Pafford Air One came out for our training night to help align our responders with their needs when landing their helicopter on scene. This kind of hands-on training is invaluable in making sure we can work together safely and efficiently when every second counts.

Current drought conditions across Louisiana are worsening, with much of our area experiencing severe to extreme drought.

Please avoid outdoor burning at this time. Dry conditions like these allow fires to spread quickly and become dangerous in a matter of minutes.
