Not too many things I love doing more than spreading some good base! 👊

Another nice transformation by the We Can Dig It team. We took this ol’ grassy field and turned it into a beautiful, usable parking lot.

The existing grass had grown higher than the asphalt, preventing the area from draining properly. We cut out the grass and excess dirt to prep the subgrade for a 150’ x 90’ parking area.

From there, we:

• Graded and compacted the subgrade
• Installed heavy-duty 600X geotextile fabric
• Hauled in, spread, graded, and fully processed right at 500 tons of limestone base with water and a smooth drum roller to achieve a solid, tight finished surface
• Cut down the field behind the new parking area to properly tie everything together and provide positive drainage
• Spread and graded all excavated dirt back on the property, no haul-off needed

Everything tied together great, drains the way it should, and turned out absolutely gorgeous.

A big thank you to Specialty Insulation Solutions for trusting We Can Dig It with your project and allowing us the opportunity to earn your business. We truly appreciate it!

Also, a big thank you to Forrest Anderson with Ace Trucking for taking care of us on the rock and helping keep the material rolling. We appreciate you!

Bates Hill is COMPLETE!

This one was a heck of a transformation, and we couldn’t be more proud of how it turned out.

We built a 100’ x 70’ house pad to engineered elevation, 2.5’ above the county road. From the existing ground to finished elevation, we raised the pad anywhere from 6’ at the highest point to over 8’ at the lowest, moving and placing over 7,000 cubic yards of material all packed in 8” lifts the correct way. The entire pad was finished with long, gradual slopes to make it safe and easy to maintain and mow.

We also dug a beautiful pond over an acre in size, shaping it with natural curves that hug the existing tree line. We made sure to leave plenty of room around it for riding SxS’s and enough room for a tractor to comfortably mow and maintain the property.

This was already a beautiful piece of property, but seeing the new pond and house pad completely changed it. We can’t wait to see a new home sitting on top of that pad and the pond full of water!

A huge thank you to the Bates family for trusting We Can Dig It – Earthwork Solutions with this project and giving us the opportunity to bring their vision to life.

And I’m extremely proud of our crew on this one. A lot of dirt was moved and a lot of hours went into getting every detail right.

Running a business means taking pride in your work, standing behind what you do, and sometimes having to address situations you wish you never had to.

Without attacking anyone’s character I will give a rundown of what has happened to this point. Recently, we completed a project that we were extremely proud of. The property turned out beautiful, and when we left, the work was completed correctly, compacted properly, and finished to the standard we expect on every job. We cut no corners and take pictures throughout the project showing the steps and ensuring it’s installed the correct way.

After the project was completed, we were informed that four-wheelers had been trespassing on the property. Shortly afterward, the area received approximately 6 inches of rain over a 2–3 day period.

We were then contacted and told there was an issue with an area we had constructed. Rather than making assumptions or ignoring the concern, I personally drove to the property with my crew while it was pouring rain to see the situation for myself.

We drove the rock driveway in 2-wheel drive without an issue. Once we reached the affected area, however, there was clear evidence that four-wheelers had been doing donuts and had disturbed the limestone, crushed concrete base, and even the geotextile fabric underneath. After that damage occurred and the property received several inches of heavy rainfall, that disturbed area experienced a failure. Rock was rutted up and the ruts holding water, fabric and dirt pumped up through the rock due to it being tore up and saturated.

I believe strongly in standing behind our work. Anyone who knows us, has worked with us, or has hired us knows the amount of pride we put into every project. We routinely go beyond what is expected because my name and my company’s name are attached to everything we build.

But standing behind your work does not mean accepting responsibility for damage that occurs after a project is completed because of trespassing, misuse, or circumstances outside of our control.

As a small business owner, situations like this are frustrating because we work extremely hard to build a reputation one project and one customer at a time. I will always listen to a legitimate concern. I will always go look at an issue. And if something is truly the result of our workmanship, we will make it right.

But I will also stand up for my company, my employees, and the quality of work we provide when the facts show otherwise.

We know the work we do. We know the standards we hold ourselves to. And we’re extremely thankful for the customers, friends, and community who know our character and continue to trust and support us.

We will continue doing what we’ve always done, work hard, do things the right way, take pride in what we build, and let our work speak for itself.

God bless!

Before the first foundation is poured or the first road is paved, one critical step sets every successful project up for success: civil site grading.

Proper site grading does much more than create a level surface—it helps manage stormwater, improves drainage, reduces erosion, and provides the stable foundation every development depends on. When grading is done right, it protects both the project and the surrounding environment while helping avoid costly issues down the road.

Whether you're planning a commercial development, industrial facility, or residential project, understanding the grading process can make all the difference.
