An early spring…brings out both beauty and the beast!

I’m always amazed at the beauty and resilience of God‘s creation. The way an old oak tree just absorbs a deer hunters spikes from years ago, the way something will blossom inside of trash bottle, the amazing sunrise, and sunset we have had lately! Good to see Old Glory hanging high…and thank you Mr. David for letting me spend some time with my oldest son at the Lodge at Lake Sundown.

It’s been a while but I thought I would share some pics from northwest Louisiana and northeast Texas from this summer. From hungry trees to aggressive beavers, from thinned pine plantation to cypress trees, from Spanish moss to giant salvinia, from spiders to bloodhounds…it’s a beautiful world God created!!

Better late than never…here some images from spring and summer of 2024. From thinning pine plantation to watching a cicada hatch to seeing new species not native to Texas (Big Leaf Magnolia) to seeing the trails of a night crawler. There are many neat things to see and many lessons to be found in the woods. I like the lesson found at the top of a pine tree that was once injured by freezing rain/ice…no matter what trauma you encounter keep reaching for the sun and you will grow! A better way of putting it is:

1 Peter 5:10
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

Afternoon sun, no wind, cypress trees that have changed color but not dropped, clear skies….Clear Lake in Louisiana is an especially beautiful part of creation this time of year!!

First time that I have seen baby catfish in a ditch/creek this small. It feeds into a creek which feeds into Little Cypress. I wonder if baby catfish feeding was what inspired synchronized swimming!?!?!

Saw this beautiful rainbow coming through Jefferson last Thursday evening. It’s the reminder of one of God’s early covenants of grace that foreshadowed an even greater covenant of grace: the death/burial/resurrection of Jesus Christ that brought eternal salvation for each of us that will enter into it by faith…just as Noah and his family entered into the ark and were saved.
