I received this message from Netgear for the Pro-Safe line of routers.

Product End of Service Notification

This is an important message about your NETGEAR equipment. Thank you for choosing NETGEAR to help keep your home connected and secure. We’re committed to keeping you informed about your products so you can continue to enjoy a seamless experience.
NETGEAR products receive regular firmware updates over the course of their lifecycle. These updates contain bug fixes, performance enhancements, security fixes, and new features.

While our team works tirelessly to provide these critical updates as long as reasonably possible, NETGEAR products eventually reach the end of their lifecycle for a variety of reasons including technological advancements, product maturity, market demands, and other reasons.
For instance, given the rapid pace of technological innovation, there comes a point when older software stacks either cannot support the updates needed to ensure a seamless level of performance or cannot reasonably be updated at all. Decisions to end the lifecycle are never easy, but are always intended to help maintain the level of performance and protection you have come to expect.
It is in that spirit, we are informing you that NETGEAR ProSAFE Routers are no longer eligible for the same level of maintenance and security updates as a newer device and we encourage you to replace it with a new NETGEAR device.

NETGEAR ProSAFE Routers
What This Means for You
NETGEAR ProSAFE Routers will continue to operate, but it will no longer receive the same level of updates designed to maintain the performance of your device and address new and evolving security needs. This could mean, for instance, your device will not perform optimally or make your network more susceptible to security risks.
Y
Our latest products produce advanced performance and security features to meet your evolving needs — helping to keep your network safe, connected, and future-ready.
A more modern replacement NETGEAR product containing similar features to your NETGEAR ProSAFE Routers is the NETGEAR Router PR60X.
Thank You for Trusting NETGEAR
If you have any questions or need help selecting your next product, our team is ready to assist you. Learn more about End of Service and what it means for your product at our NETGEAR End of Service page.

There is an ongoing outage related to a DDoS (distributed denial of service) attack directed against Bandwidth.com, a major VoIP provider. Bandwidth.com is a wholesale provider of VoIP services and this outage is affecting multiple companies, including SpectraTel, Ring Central, DialPad, Phone.com, Accent Communication Services as well as others.
Efforts are underway to minimize and contain the effect of this attack.

There are both advantages and disadvantages to both VoIP and traditional (premise-based) telephone systems. I understand that this can be confusing.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I can provide services based on either scenario.

1. Reliability
A main disadvantage of a VoIP system is its reliance on the Internet to function. If you have a power failure or your Internet goes down, your company is left without any phone service. Traditional telephone lines get their power through the telephone wire and often function even during power failures. While VoIP services send your calls to the message center during outages and store them until service is restored, many companies keep at least one traditional phone line so they can make critical calls when the VoIP service is down.
2. Flexibility
With VoIP, you can add telephone numbers and telephones limited only by the bandwidth of your Internet connection. If your connection reaches capacity, call quality suffers. With PBX, you buy a system designed for a given number of lines and telephones. If you need a bigger system, you have to pay extra to add capacity.
3. Voice quality
The voice quality of your VoIP calls depends on the quality of the Internet connection. If you are in an urban area with high bandwidth and have a high-capacity connection, your call quality will be similar to that for calls made over a PBX and traditional land lines. If your Internet connection doesn't have enough bandwidth or bottlenecks exist anywhere else on the Internet, your call quality deteriorates.
4. Emergency services
While VoIP service providers have tried to make 911 calling reliable from VoIP phones, they have had mixed success. With a PBX land line, the telephone company knows where the line ends and emergency services can find you via caller ID. A VoIP phone has no permanent location, as it will work from any connection to the Internet. You have to tell the VoIP service provider where you are using the service, but this has proved less reliable than normal 911 service, because the VoIP call may not connect to the correct emergency services number, and the location information may not transmit properly.
5. Cost
The main advantage of VoIP is cost. VoIP service providers will provide the premise equipment via either purchase, lease/purchase or rental.
You will pay only monthly charges to an ISP (Internet service provider) of your choice. There will be no monthly charges for the telephone lines., although many customers prefer to have at least one line for emergency calls in the case of a power outage.
There will also be monthly charges for the VoIP management service and maintenance of the equipment.
While the charges for the premise equipment (telephones and control unit) may be higher than the VoIP system, there are no monthly charges for maintenance and management of the equipment, although maintenance agreements are available. Most people choose to contract for these services on an hourly basis.
6. Fax services
Certain types of calls do not function well over VoIP lines. Fax service is one of these. I recommend keeping one traditional (analog) line for fax services.

Kari's Law was recently signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbot to ensure that it is not necessary to dial "9" before dialing "911" on PBX-type telephone systems.
If you are using a telephone system that requires you to dial 9 before making an outside call, PLEASE test this by dialing 911 on one of your phones.
If the call completes, you must tell the operator that this is NOT an emergency but that you are calling to test the 911 function of your telephone system.
If the call fails, call your telephone vendor.

There are 4 things that can happen when you change your telephone company.
1. Calls ring, you answer, something gets sold!
2. Busy signal, caller tries again later.
3. Caller hears ring, no answer, probably calls again later.
4. Caller gets a telephone company recording stating that the number is not in service...Caller then calls your competitor.
