Not all blocking is created equal.
One question we get asked is why we add blocking behind lower cabinets but not necessarily behind every upper cabinet.
The reason is simple 👇
🔨 Lower cabinets carry the weight of heavy countertops, which can create additional stress on the mounting points over time. Blocking helps provide extra support where it matters most.
📐 Upper cabinets are typically installed directly into wall studs. As long as the cabinet layout aligns with the framing, there is already a strong attachment point built into the wall.
🛠️ If a cabinet layout does not line up with the studs, we will add additional blocking to ensure everything is properly supported.
Like many parts of home building, it is not about doing more. It is about doing the right thing in the right place.
