Sometimes a claim doesn’t make sense. This particular shingle has been the same dimensions since 2007. The policy language on their declaration page has an endorsement implementing an RPS after 15 years meaning there’s non-recoverable depreciation after 15 years. This homeowner would have only received 45% of the approved amount minus their deductible. Simply put, even if the insurance would have approved $30,000 for repairs they would only been approved for $13,500 minus their $2,500 deductible leaving them with $11,000 and an obligation to complete the replacement.
