BIG NEWS IN MONTANA LIVESTOCK MARKETING —

Barry and Dannielle McCoy, owners of Dillon Livestock Auction, have purchased Montana Livestock Auction Co. in Ramsay from the Nuffer family.

The McCoys say it will be business as usual at both locations as they head into the busy fall cattle run.

Last Thursday August 27th was our annual yearling special featuring the Renecker Cattle Co – yearlings selling 368 head.  This was a special offering with a big string of black steers selling in a single draft 184 hd at 904 lbs when the bidding was all in and done settling at $334/cwt.  This was a larger offering of cattle as we approach the fall season.  Selling today 57 bred cows / 202 weigh up cows / 102 weigh up bulls / 325 yearling heifers / 512 yearling steers.  Good test of the market on all classes.  Weigh up cattle would be under pressure this last week with news of import tariff reductions and increasing beef imports as well as rising grain and feed prices.  As we have seen over the last several months good quality and larger sets of consistent cattle still bring the top of the markets as both feeders and packers are operating in tight cattle supplies

Two years ago, the Producer Profitability Initiative listening sessions brought together Montana producers to share ideas, challenges, and vision for the future of the livestock industry. This fall, we will continue that conversation with producers. The events will share updates on the work that has been accomplished, what we’ve learned, and get feedback on how to continue this work to ensure the sustainability of the American livestock industry while providing security for the domestic food supply.

Currently have 1048 head checked in:
75 Weigh Bulls
188 weigh up cows
756 mixed feeders
Including some fancy yearlings 365 head off one outfit -
Pre sorted 182 black steers estimated 900lbs
54 black steers estimated at 750lbs
27 dark nose char steers estimated at 900lbs
15 red steers estimated at 900lbs
39 bred cows

Sale starts at 10am with bawling calves, followed with yearlings. Then bred cows, weigh up bulls, and weigh up cows at the end of the day.
Cattle USA will be on for buyers! Lunch at noon.
