Infected raccoons can shed millions of microscopic roundworm eggs in their f***s every day.
The parasite is called Baylisascaris procyonis, or raccoon roundworm. Its eggs become infectious after sitting in the environment for approximately 2–4 weeks—and can survive in soil for years.
If accidentally swallowed, the eggs can hatch and the larvae may travel through the body, including to the eyes or brain. Human infections are rare, but they can be extremely serious.
Raccoons often return to the same areas to leave droppings, creating contaminated “raccoon latrines.” Never sweep or vacuum dry raccoon f***s, and keep children and pets away from suspected areas.

🪳 FREAKY FACT FRIDAY
Cockroaches are tough — but the fact that they can survive without their heads isn’t even the biggest reason they’re so difficult to control.
We’ve been seeing cockroach activity on the rise here in Summit County and the surrounding mountain communities.
German cockroaches are especially concerning because they reproduce quickly, hide deep inside cracks, cabinets and appliances, and can easily hitchhike into even clean homes and businesses through boxes, deliveries, luggage and other belongings.
They’re primarily active at night, so seeing cockroaches during the daytime can actually be a sign of a heavier infestation. Their f***s, shed skins and saliva can also contribute to allergens and asthma symptoms.
And here’s today’s freaky fact: cockroaches don’t breathe through their mouths. They breathe through small openings along their bodies called spiracles, which is part of the reason they can survive for a period of time even after losing their heads.
The biggest takeaway? Don’t wait for a cockroach problem to become obvious. If you’re seeing one, especially during the day, there may be considerably more hiding nearby.

A mature carpenter ant colony can contain tens of thousands of ants — with some nests reaching around 50,000. 😳
But here’s the part that really matters: carpenter ants don’t eat wood like termites. They excavate it, carving out galleries to build and expand their nests. Over time, a large colony can leave behind some pretty serious damage—like what you see in the photo.
And they especially love moist, damaged, or decaying wood, which gives them an easier place to get established.
Seeing large black ants around your home? Don’t ignore them. The ants you see may only be a tiny fraction of what’s hiding inside.

🛏️ Think bed bugs only live in dirty homes? Think again.

Bed bugs don’t care if your home is spotless or messy. They’re expert hitchhikers that travel on luggage, clothing, backpacks, furniture, and even overnight bags.

Once inside, they hide in tiny cracks around beds, headboards, nightstands, baseboards, electrical outlets, and furniture. They typically come out at night, using the carbon dioxide you exhale and your body heat to locate you while you sleep.

Common signs of a bed bug infestation include:
🔴 Small, itchy bites that often appear in rows or clusters
🩸 Tiny blood spots on sheets or pillowcases
⚫ Dark f***l spots on mattresses, box springs, or bed frames
🪳 Live bed bugs or shed skins hiding in seams and cracks

The sooner bed bugs are identified, the easier and less expensive they are to eliminate. Waiting often allows the infestation to spread to additional rooms or neighboring units.

Research has shown that some species of paper wasps can recognize individual human faces. While they’re not out looking for revenge, they can remember repeated threats near their nest and become much more defensive if you return.
That’s why people often get stung while mowing the lawn, cleaning gutters, staining a deck, or simply walking too close to a hidden nest. Once wasps believe their colony is in danger, they’ll work together to defend it.
The good news? Catching a nest early is much safer than waiting until late summer when colonies are at their largest and most aggressive.
