🍇 Sunday in the Vineyard: Petit Verdot 🍇

Each Sunday, we’re sharing a little more about our vineyard, the grapes we grow, and what is happening among the vines throughout the season.

Harvest decisions are a major part of our work in the vineyard. We collect berries from throughout each block rather than relying on a single cluster or row. We measure sugar and acidity, but we also taste the berries, examine the skins and seeds, and follow the weather forecast.

Petit Verdot is a later-ripening variety, so it often remains on the vine after earlier grapes have been harvested.

Petit Verdot is one of the traditional red grapes of Bordeaux. Although it is often used in small amounts in a blend, it can contribute considerable color, tannin, aroma, and structure. Petit Verdot can produce intensely colored wines with flavors and aromas of blackberry, black cherry, plum, violet, herbs, and spice. Its deep color and firm tannins make it a valuable blending grape, but it can also produce a powerful and distinctive wine on its own.

For Petit Verdot, patience in the vineyard can make a tremendous difference in the finished wine.

I wanted to share this photo our daughter, Ashley, took this morning. The storm clouds are rolling in. It almost looks like she AI'd the trees onto the photo but I can assure you she did not. The sun was hitting them just right. Amazing what a photo can capture.

It is expected to be a rainy day but we have plenty of inside seating perfect for enjoying a glass of wine and reading a book, relaxing with friends, or meeting new ones! We are open until 6 pm.
