The last 5 days personnel have been extremely busy responding to 6 brush fire calls and a structure fire within our district. While we are hopeful we may get some rain in the next couple of days, we are urging residents to please use caution with open burning. Vegetation is extremely dry and even the smallest fire can become uncontrolled very quickly.

Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower

Most everyone could walk into their kids room and find a situation like this right now. It is important we teach the dangers of charging devices on beds and soft furniture.

Beds, couches, and pillows can trap heat and block airflow which can cause a battery to overheat. The U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission reported at least 25,000 incidents of lithium-ion batteries overheating or catching fire over a 5 year study, these incidents led to 141 injuries and 13 fatalities over that time.
Always charge on a hard, flat surface like a table, desk, or floor.

Large lithium-ion batteries such as the ones in scooters and e-bikes pose a higher risk than small ones because more potential energy means larger and more intense fires.

Always charge large items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible. Do not block exits when charging. These batteries store more energy and are more dangerous if they fail.

What a fantastic day! Personnel had the privilege of spending the day with approximately 400 Pre-school and Kindergarten aged kids at Truman Learning Center in Farmington. We aren't sure who enjoyed the day more, the kids or us! Thank you Truman for inviting us to come spend the day with you!

The Doe Run Fire Protection District is teaming up with NFPA to promote this years Fire Prevention Week October 4th-10th. This years theme is Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower.

Lithium-Ion batteries are everywhere from our phones and laptops, to cars and everyday objects. Despite their many advantages, lithium-ion batteries have the potential to overheat, catch fire, and cause explosions.

Every day this week we will be sharing tips and tricks on everyday actions that can help prevent lithium-ion battery fires. Help us spread the word and use your charging superpower by making smart choices every time you plug in!
