Kyah Retherford discovered that studying Geosciences could lead far beyond the classroom.

Through hands-on courses, support from faculty, and connections with industry professionals, the College of Western Idaho (CWI) student earned a summer internship at the Stibnite Gold Project with Perpetua Resources. There, she worked with drill core, visited drill rigs, and explored career paths in geoscience.

Now in her final semester at CWI, Kyah is taking those experiences with her as she prepares for her next chapter.

Road Notice: Gravel resurfacing operations on Johnson Creek Road will begin Monday, Oct 5th and will last approximately one month. Please expect delays on Johnson Creek Road and consider South Fork Road as an alternative route.

🚨 HEADS UP, RACE DAY TRAFFIC! 🚨

During the Idaho High Mountain Triathlon on Saturday, October 3, Johnson Creek Road will be CLOSED to public traffic from 10:30 AM–2:30 PM.

🚴‍♀️🏃‍♂️ This temporary closure helps keep our athletes safe as they make their way through the course.

Please use South Fork Road as the recommended alternate route.

This summer, CWI students took their learning from the classroom to the Stibnite Gold Project, gaining valuable hands-on experience in geoscience, core logging and mine operations.

Through our partnership with the College of Western Idaho, we’re helping students gain the skills and real-world experience needed to pursue careers in mining and build the next generation of Idaho’s mining workforce.

This week, dust abatement activities will be occurring on Johnson Creek Road September 22-24, as part of our ongoing efforts to improve road conditions and reduce dust. The dust treatment material can adhere to vehicles, so travelers are encouraged to use South Fork Road as an alternative route. If travel on Johnson Creek Road is necessary during this time, please limit your speed to 5 mph to help reduce potential for the product to get on vehicles.

Please plan your travel accordingly and use extra caution while crew members are working. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to maintain safe and accessible roads.
