The tradition of volunteering to serve the community lives on. DOVFD is one of the remaining 2 (Ponder also) 100% volunteer fire departments in Denton County. The Board of Directors and entire team of the DOVFD would like to sincerely thank Mayor Patrick Johnson and the Double Oak Town Council for approving an increased budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year.

We work diligently to control costs, seek additional funding, and make every dollar go as far as possible. At the same time, the costs associated with fire, rescue, and EMS services have increased significantly over the past five years.

We are proud that the Town of Double Oak and its leadership recognize the importance of the services we provide, place value on the work of our members, and have demonstrated that commitment through financial support—along with the many other forms of support we receive from our community.

We are grateful for the continued trust and partnership of the Town of Double Oak and look forward to continuing to serve our community.

Today we sent Lt Craig Apfel and Medic Katie Corzo on deployment for a week. Their original post was Hillsboro to await assignment. En route, they were given orders to report to Meridian, TX to help with immediate evacuations and structure protection. The Hydra Fire jumped containment earlier today. Please keep our team members and the people of Meridian in mind.

This Sunday September 13th at 7am (we want to beat the heat and be done in time for some folks to make late church service) we’re hosting our annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Challenge at the Marcus High School football stadium. This nationwide event is held annually to remember first responders who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Every year we climb 110 floors worth of bleacher stairs (2,200 steps) in gear to remember and honor them. This is a good time for first responders and community members to walk together side by side. It’s a great workout, but more importantly it’s a great way to teach family members to never forget 9/11. Come on out and walk with us!

Please park on the south side of the stadium and come in the gates. Remember to bring water!

The team is on the way home. Safe and sound.

We participated as part of a special Denton County Strike Team, self-formed, to assist when resources across DC or nearby were overwhelmed. That team has been on the Ross Fire for several days.

The team was thanked for our service by Ross Fire leadership specifically for today’s efforts. They said that without our help the fire would have jumped the road and gotten away.

We were glad to serve with fire departments from Little Elm, Coppell, Aubrey, Grapevine, Lake Cities, and Justin.
