Members of Butler County Fire District #8 , Cowley County Fire District #2 Atlanta , Andover Fire-Rescue joining together with Anderson County Fire responded Friday afternoon to assist with fires in South West Kansas as the Butler County Task Force. Fire District 8 sent chief Guyot in a command unit, Fire Fighter Jon Johnson, Terry Page, Shane Hilyard, and Dalton Hilyard in Pumper 81 and Tank 86. We have just finished a 17 hour shift south of Meade and are being released to come home
We would like to Thank Mark Engholm State Fire Marshall for putting together all the State Resources to help. The crews have worked four days with limited rest. Thankfully with no injuries or damage to equipment. It was an honor to work with this team as one unit on these large wildland fires. It was also an extremely proud and humbling time watching two sets of two generational father/sons fire fighters fight these fires together. The Hilyards from Douglasd and Grows from Atlanta. It is a reminder that passing down our love of fighting fire, hard work ethics, and passion for helping our fellow Kansans is what keeps volunteer firefighters in our communities alive and well. I was humbled and also excited to do the same with my children someday. The pride I have for the men I have been working with for 72 hours is deep and profound. I am proud to be a part of this state and proud to lead all members of Fire District 8 knowing we are here to help our communities in time of need. Thank You to all of our citizens for allowing us this opportunity and having our resources to assist others. Lastly I think our families for their patients and support when we leave to do the thing we love. Stay Safe.
