FAQ'S we receive daily, as an IICRC Certified Mold and Water Restoration Firm...
Please Note: These answers are not up for debate with any other remediation companies or handymen. They are to educate and inform any and all home or business owners of recent State of Georgia studies on how to move forward with a remediation. Q1: Do I have to use the contractor that my insurance adjuster recommended?
A: Absolutely not. You do the hiring. In fact, we do not recommend that you utilize any contractors that may be affiliated with your insurance company, as it is a conflict of interest.
Q2: Do I really need a Mold Certified Professional Technician or can I just use a handyman?
A: A mold or water damage certified professional has successfully completed the latest educational courses and safety training required by the state of Georgia. A caring certified professional should identify the source of your mold/water problem, efficiently eliminate your existing issue using a commercial machinery, chemical and properly educate you on how to prevent any future growth.
Q3: My handyman cleaned up the mold in my basement with some bleach and sprayed Kilz over it, is that okay?
A: Unfortunately not, because mold grows roots. Bleach or any other store bought cleaner will not prevent regrowth from the already embedded roots. A professional grade chemical will need to be applied in order to extract any mold growth. Kilz or any other store bought sprays will not pe*****te, nor do they extract the embedded mold growth.
Q4: How long does it take for mold to grow, after a water loss?
A: Mold begins to grow in 48-72 hours, after a water loss.
Q5: After a water loss, should I contact my plumber or a water restoration company first?
A: Once you can see the mold, your claim may easily be categorized as a mold claim. If you do not pay for mold coverage, you will not be covered, so do not wait on your Adjuster to return your call. They may take days to return your call. Call a Certified Water Restoration company to dry out your home professionally, along with a reputable Plumber to stop any leaks we may find!
Q6: What should I do if I see visible mold in my home?
A: Block off the room or area, until a certified mold remediation company arrives. Be sure not to aggravate the area(s) and to stay away from the affected area(s), in order to prevent spreading further mold growth throughout your home.
Q7: Can mold make me sick?
A: Yes, it can. While some people may react with what may seem to be simple allergies, others with a compromised immune system may be triggered more severely. Some may experience little to no symptoms at all. No matter the symptoms, mold is toxic to everyone, even your pets.
Q8: Will an air fog treatment remove mold?
A: No, it will not. An air fog treatment cannot take care of a mold problem on it's own. Fogging only helps knock airborne spores down to surfaces or temporarily freshen the air, but it does not fix water leaks, remove mold spore roots from wood or drywall. While drywall will need to be replaced, wood can be treated with a commercial product.
Q9: If I see mold in my home or business, should I immediately place a dehumidifier in the affected area?
A: No, dehumidifiers blow air and will move mold spores around, causing more mold growth in other areas. Your goal should be to contain the area, not aggravate it. You have now contaminated your dehumidifier with mold spores. If you should use the same contaminated dehumidifier again, it will first need to be deconstructed for cleaning or you will cross contaminate.
