Every Monday we'll be publishing a segment dedicated to each of the 12 subfamilies that formed 😍 And yes, we know that there are conflicting opinions regarding the official number of subfamilies, but to date this is the classification that we believe enjoys the most acceptance.

The first subfamily is Acanthopelminae, the smallest of all, with barely one gender and two species 😮 These tarantulas are usually found in Central America and Guyana and are usually smaller than other species in the region.

Today we will be talking about the main family of Tarantulas 😍 the Theraphosidae. This family there are at least 12 subfamilies in which the vast majority of tarantula species that are usually kept as pets are classified 🕷

The different species within this family are found all over the world 🌎 some endemic to America and others to Africa or Asia. Few species can be found naturally on two different continents. The natural habitat is variable according to each species and can range from savannahs to cloud forests.

These spiders are usually nocturnal predators and are equipped with venom and most of them with stinging hairs that they use mainly as a defense mechanism. The size and colors are highly variable because there are many species that make up the family, but the largest specimens can exceed 12" in their adulthood, and those with the most striking colors usually range from pink, orange or blue 🤩
